Cherie's Totally Rad 5K to End HIV Page
Hello friends!
As most of you know, every year I participate in the Walk to End HIV (and for the last few years I even run the 5K slowly!) in honor of my father, who passed away from AIDS when I was a baby. Since I started doing this in 2008, you all have helped me raise almost $20,000 for Whitman Walker, an amazing clinic in DC that focuses on services and education designed to prevent transmission of the HIV virus and provide care to those who are infected.
I know this is a weird year for everybody. A lot of good causes need donations more than ever and a lot of good people are out of work or facing pay reductions. But this is also a year when Whitman Walker means more than ever. Throughout the COVID crisis, they have stretched resources to continue offering health care to the most vulnerable populations in DC, they have offered virtual appointments when possible, and helped mitigate the ongoing HIV/AIDS epidemic while also struggling to help pull us through the global pandemic. On a more personal level, many of you know that my mom battled (and beat) cancer over the last year--Whitman Walker helped her catch the diagnosis and were a vital part of her treatment and recovery.
My goal this year is $2,230, which I know is ambitious. But if we hit it, that will be $20,000--and most of that happened over the last few years, thanks to the amazing Supernatural fandom. I can't think of a better way to say goodbye to our boys than to add this to their legacy of saving people. If you've ever enjoyed one of my stories, laughed at my dumb tweets, or followed my con livetweets (you know...back when cons were allowed to be a thing ;___;), it would mean the world to me if you could chip in to help me meet this goal!!
Love y'all!
