Cherie's Totally Rad 5K to End HIV Page
As most of you know, every year I participate in the Walk to End HIV (and for the last few years I even run the 5K slowly!) in honor of my father, who passed away from AIDS when I was a baby. Since I started doing this in 2008, you all have helped me raise OVER $20,000 for Whitman Walker, an amazing clinic in DC that focuses on services and education designed to prevent transmission of the HIV virus and provide care to those who are infected.
Throughout the COVID crisis, Whitman Walker has stretched resources to continue offering health care to the most vulnerable populations in DC, they have offered virtual appointments when possible, and helped mitigate the ongoing HIV/AIDS epidemic while also struggling to help pull us through the global pandemic. On a more personal level, many of you know that my mom has been battling cancer over the last two years--Whitman Walker has been a vital part of her treatment.
My goal this year is $1,000. If you've ever enjoyed one of my stories or laughed at my dumb tweets, it would mean the world to me if you could chip in to help me meet this goal!!
