Join Me for the 38th Annual Walk to End HIV – Honoring Lives and Advancing Change
Most of you know the story of my dad—his strength, his love, and his untimely passing after being diagnosed with AIDS. Stigma, health inequity, shame, and limited access to care in Puerto Rico all played a role in his loss. In his memory, I’m proud to participate in Whitman-Walker’s Walk to End HIV on Saturday, December 7th.
This event is not just a walk—it’s the largest fundraiser supporting Whitman-Walker’s vital programs and services. Your support makes it possible for this incredible organization to:
- Provide compassionate care to over 20,000 patients annually.
- Conduct cutting-edge research that advances HIV prevention and treatment.
- Advocate fiercely for the rights and health of LGBTQ+ communities nationwide.
Why this matters now:
In Washington, D.C., approximately 2% of adults are living with HIV, and many more are unaware of their status. Alarmingly, young people aged 13-24 account for nearly 20% of new HIV diagnoses. The fight against HIV isn’t over, but Whitman-Walker is leading the charge with innovative prevention tools like PrEP and PEP, comprehensive health education, and unwavering support for long-term survivors.
For over 50 years, Whitman-Walker has been a beacon of hope:
- A trusted healthcare provider during the AIDS epidemic, the COVID-19 pandemic, and beyond.
- A pioneer in HIV care, LGBTQ+ advocacy, and groundbreaking research.
- A safe space for those facing stigma and seeking compassionate care.
How you can help:
We still have work to do to achieve an HIV-free future. Your contribution to the Walk to End HIV helps expand access to care, develop innovative prevention methods, and connect with the most at-risk populations.
I’m asking for your support to help me reach my personal fundraising goal of $500. Every dollar counts. Every gift matters. Together, we can fight stigma, save lives, and honor the memories of those we’ve lost while forging a brighter future.
Thank you for standing with me—and for supporting Whitman-Walker’s life-saving mission.
Gracias.
Juan Carlos
