The last few years have been a really challenging time to work in the mental health field. The challenges of social isolation, disconnection from community, the ongoing assault on identity because of gender, sexuality, race, privilege, and access continue to divide communities and further isolated individuals. In addition, the shortage of mental health and substance use treatment resources at an accessible, community level, continue to wane everyday with many skilled clinicians leaving the field of mental health.
As a community based Health Center Whitman Walker provides critical life-saving mental health services to LGBTQ+ and HIV+ individuals in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
