I lost a dear friend this year, not to HIV, though HIV was among the health considerations that impacted how they saw the world. That person's memory has been ringing in my heart a lot lately. 

When funding from the federal government wasn't there, what did the HIV community do? 

When new HIV prevention tools were available, what did the HIV community do? 

When people living with HIV were at risk for losing essential things - like their health insurance coverage, what did the community do? 

I am walking (or running) in Whitman-Walker's 40th Annual Walk to End HIV, because that friend of mine showed me what community did. Community shows up, pools resources, stands together, innovates and advocates.
